His Excellency Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansoori has been appointed as Minister of Economy in the UAE, effective 17th of February, 2008. His Excellency Sultan holds a Bachelor’s degree (B. Sc.) in Industrial Engineering & Management Systems from Arizona State University – USA. He also has a Diploma in Computer System Analysis from the Institute of Computer Technology, Los Angeles, California – USA.

In addition to his position as Minister of Economy, His Excellency Sultan holds the positions below:

  • Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Consumer Protection
  • Chairman of the Coordinating and Economic Cooperation Committee
  • Chairman of the National Committee for the Follow-up Program of Investment Climate
  • Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Securities and Commodities Authority
  • Chairman of the insurance Authority
  • Chairman of the Federal Civil Aviation Authority
  • Member of the Ministerial Committee for Legislation
  • Member of the National Committee on Population Composition
  • Member of the Committee of Finance and Economy

In addition to his position, His Excellency Sultan holds the previous positions below:

The 1st AUE International Research Conference (AUEIRC)

The 1st American University in the Emirates International Research Conference (AUEIRC) will provide a platform for discussing recent trends in creative business and social innovation. AUEIRC will highlight the various aspects of creative business and social innovations that can scale for the benefit of communities.

Aims and Scope:

AUEIRC aims to bring together academics, practitioners, researchers, policy makers and students to share and discuss challenges and solutions in contemporary disciplines. The scope of the conference includes a broad range of topics on areas that impact contemporary society.

Keynote Speakers

Professor Suzanne Ortega became the sixth President of the Council of Graduate Schools on July 1, 2014. Prior to assuming her current position, she served as the University of North Carolina Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs (2011-14). Previous appointments included the Executive Vice President and Provost at the University of New Mexico, Vice Provost and Graduate Dean at the University of Washington and the University of Missouri. Professor Ortega serves has served on a number of professional association boards and committees, including, the Executive Boards of the Council of Graduate Schools, the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), the National Academies of Science Committee on the Assessment of the Research Doctorate, the National Science Foundation’s Human Resources Expert Panel, the North Carolina E-learning Commission, the North Carolina Public School Forum, the UNC TV Foundation, and the UNC Press Board of Governors.

Prof. Galal Hassan Galal-Edeen (Cairo University & UCL, University of London) is a professor of Information Systems Engineering and a Certified Usability Analyst. He is visiting professor to University College London, the University of London, Nile University, Egypt and the American University in Cairo. He has applied experiences in information systems analysis, specification, high-level design and usability evaluation. He also served as Cairo University Chair on Innovation and supported university staff, students and industry in their innovation efforts and trained university staff and industry in innovation management and research proposal writing, among other professional development areas. He has degree qualifications in management sciences, systems analysis and design, information systems engineering, architecture and spatial design, and gained professional certifications or trainings in innovation management.
Prof. Galal Hassan Galal-Edeen
Cairo University & UCL, University of London
Ali Emrouznejad is a Professor and Chair in Business Analytics and has been working in various areas of Operations Research and Statistic generally and Data Envelopment Analysis specifically since 1993. He holds an MSc in applied mathematics and received his PhD in operational research and systems from Warwick Business School, UK. Having got PhD in DEA, in 1998, he has joined to the development team of Performance Indicators (PI) in Higher Education (HE) at HEFCE (Higher Education Funding Council for England). The PI in HE has widely published and it is now annual publication of HESA (Higher Education Statistical Agency). He has worked on several research projects including: “assessing cost efficiencies in higher education” funded by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) and “Analysis of efficiencies and productivity evolution in manufacturing industries with CO2 emissions in China” funded by Royal Academy of Engineering. His areas of research interest include performance measurement and management, efficiency and productivity analysis as well as data mining and big data.

Submission Guidelines

All papers are subject to a double-blind peer review process by at least two reviewers. Submission guidelines can be accessed by clicking this hyperlink.

Conference Publications

Accepted papers will be published by Springer in edited volumes following their specific fields as printed volumes as well as online in the digital library SpringerLink. Authors of some selected best papers will be invited to submit the extended version of their AUEIRC papers for peer review after the conference. These papers will be published in a special issue of the AUE journal “Smart City Challenges and Solutions” (SCCS).

DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) is the optimization method of mathematical programming to generalize the Farrell (1957) single-input/ single-output technical efficiency measure to the multiple-input/ multiple-output case by constructing a relative efficiency score as the ratio of a single virtual output to a single virtual input.
This 2-hour workshop will present how to go about using DEA. Attendees will be recognized for their participation by American University in the Emirates.
